For being eligible to incentives (feed-in-tariffs) when installing a small residential PV system (<10 kW), a part of the building's hot water needs must be covered by renewable energy sources such as solar thermal systems. The only authorities involved in authorization are the local branch of the Distribution Network Operator (HEDNO, which issues a grid-connection offer) and the Public Power Corporation (PPC) (or any other electricity retailer) with which a “compensation agreement” is being signed. As of winter 2011, installation of rooftop systems on listed buildings is not allowed.

Legal obligations during system Operation

During the operation of the PV systems, its owner is obliged to respect the current "Grid Control and Power Exchange Code for Electricity", and the "Grid Code" in place. It should be noted however that Greece still lacks an official Grid Code (there is only a draft available). If the system is financed by a Bank, loan insurance is compulsory (typical loan insurance cost: 0.4% of principal)
