For being eligible to incentives (feed-in-tariffs) when installing a small residential PV system (<10 kW), a part of the building's hot water needs must be covered by renewable energy sources such as solar thermal systems. The only authorities involved in authorization are the local branch of the Distribution Network Operator (HEDNO, which issues a grid-connection offer) and the Public Power Corporation (PPC) (or any other electricity retailer) with which a “compensation agreement” is being signed. As of winter 2011, installation of rooftop systems on listed buildings is not allowed.

Examination of criteria for installation site

The installation is allowed on the terrace or rooftop of the building, including veranda covers, facades, storehouses and carports. Rooftop PV must be installed within the volume of the roof, following its incline, in order to protect the aesthetics of the building and its surroundings. In the case of installations on terraces, the minimum distance from the parapet of the terrace must be 0.5 m, for safety reasons. In the case of a penthouse, PV installations should be limited to the perimeter of the roof.
